1024 QAM and 256 QAM quadrature amplitude modulation

What is 1024 QAM and 256 QAM ? 

  • 1024 QAM is one which 10 bits transmitted within the time frame of single frequency.
  • 1024 bits QAM into IEEE802.11ax was achieved by pairing it with 3/4 and 5/6 coding rates to create two new modulation and coding schemes MCS with 10 and 11. 
  • For IEEE802.11ac works on 8 bits within time frame and which is also known a 256 QAM. 
  • The raw speed gain over 256 QAM is 10/8 or 25 percent.
  • With equal and more than that of IEEE802.11ac, gigabit speed with single antenna and commercial wireless technology introduced a IEEE802.11ax. 
  • 1024 QAM which is important for 5g technology through which WiFi 6 Radio are introduced. 
  • The major effect of 1024 QAM which will have a overall cell throughput is expected to be greater for small and denser cell area with less than 2000ft  than larger cell greater than 5000 ft. Peak speed of 4.8 gbps new capabilities such as immersive enterprise grade virtual reality using headsets (HMD). 
  • With low cost and high speed 50 percentage closed constellation which results in SNR i.e signal to noise is 6 dB higher. 
  • Compared to IEEE802.11ac, IEEE802.11 ax designed to support 8*Tx and 8*Rx antenna's. Which increase the transmit beam forming and maximum ratio combining (MRC) gains to offset this deficit.
  • QAM 1024 bits supports MCS 10 to 11 for IEEE802.11ax. For QAM 256 bits supports MCS 8 to 9.
